E-ink terminal platform
One device, one black-and-white e-ink panel, one whole night. Reading, music, audiobooks, comics and a calendar, all on the same panel. No glow, no short videos, no waiting for an update — open it and you are on the page you left.
One panel · Six entries
The now-playing card and the to-do line stay put; everything else belongs to the content. An e-ink panel has no animation to fall back on — a refresh is a decision — so each screen carries one thing.
No partial-refresh animation, no momentum. You press, you wait about a second, the next page is there. People used to scrolling find it slow at first — and in exchange every page is sharp and never ghosts.
The panel remembers ink by pixel, not by content. With the power off it is still the last page, lying on the desk like a book left open.
The music player is a record and a waveform — the picture of a performance. A book is not one. So audiobooks have their own page: a cover, a chapter number, the chapter title. The one thing the glass most needs to say is which book, and which chapter of it.
Each chapter keeps its own place. Coming back to a book you have finished, the device knows whether you are resuming from where you stopped or starting again — because “finished” and “never started” are the same number in a progress field.
Features
Every item below corresponds to a screen that actually exists on the device.
01
TXT and EPUB, four type sizes, and your place is remembered across power loss. Chinese goes through a GB18030 table, so older non-UTF-8 files do not turn to noise.
02
A library off the TF card. MP3, FLAC and WAV. While it plays, only the region that changed is refreshed — the panel never strobes.
03
Organised by book and chapter, each chapter keeping its own place. Sleep timer and playback speed included.
04
MOBI and EPD, read a page at a time, resampled from grey to mono so the strokes stay clean.
05
Lunar dates and solar terms computed on the device, no network. To-dos live on the card, shared by the device and the web console.
06
Join the access point and manage books, media, backups, battery and firmware updates from a browser.
It isn't that the screen is better looking. It's that it leaves you alone.
What an e-ink panel gives up by not glowing is speed — and what it gets back is three things: it never glares, it keeps the last page with the power off, and it is a device that will not push notifications at 2am. The design has to be honest about this: every screen must survive “this is about to be replaced”.
Interface
Six entries on a single page, and each page answers exactly one question: what is playing, what is today, which chapter am I on. An e-ink panel takes a moment to refresh, and that cost decides what it can carry — so every page has to stay spare. Removing a button needs a better reason than adding ten controls.
